The Playstation 4 has been out for about three years now, and in that time it has amassed a huge library of hundreds of games. With the new
PS4 Pro already on shelves, many gamers will be looking to either add the increased power of the upgraded console to their gaming collection, or start fresh in the PS4 world.
How are you supposed to navigate this gigantic maze of potential games? Luckily, we're here to help! Each one of the games on this list have been thoroughly praised by both critics and fans alike, and will absolutely deliver a rich, satisfying experience that's worth way more than their price tag.
10) The Last of Us - Remastered
If you're unsure of where to start your collection, "The Last of Us - Remastered" should be high on your list. If you hear about survivors traversing a zombie-infested world of some kind, your eyes might roll. "The Last of Us," however, is so rich, so dense, and so well acted, that many have praised it as "
the best story ever told" or the best video game ever. You just have to see for yourself.
9) Diablo III - Ultimate Evil Edition
If you're into action RPGs where the combat comes at you quickly and often, this is the game for you. While the original "Diablo III" famously faced launch trouble on PC, this version combines the game with the respected "Reaper of Souls" add-on. That means you get a comprehensive, non-stop monster-slaying experience, that is among the best action RPGs you can play on any console.
8) Destiny - The Taken King
Just two days after it was released in September 2015 "Destiny" became "the
most downloaded game on day-one in PlayStation history." The initial release included fairly standard gameplay and a convoluted story that somehow managed to make voiceover from Tyrion himself, Peter Dinklage, boring. However, "The Taken King" expands on that world, adding more classes, fun powers, and an engrossing story. Pick this up, and you'll sink many hours into it.
While "Overwatch" is available for many platforms, it's an amazing experience on the PS4. Blizzard, the studio that brought us "World of Warcraft," "Hearthstone," and other polished, popular games, unleashed "Overwatch" on the world and it almost instantly became a bonafide megahit. The game emphasizes teamwork, and every match is fun, frantic, and different from the last one.
One of the most popular PC games of all time released a new installment. In a world of cover-based, realistic first person shooters like "Call of Duty," "Doom" stands out as an old-school run-and-gun marathon. That said, you'll still need sharp wits, as the enemies are smarter than ever. Is the BFG in the game? Oh yes.
5) Uncharted 4 - A Thief's End
"Uncharted 4 - A Thief's End" is the final chapter in the story of Nathan Drake, one of the Playstation's most memorable heroes. Building upon three prior award-winning entries in the series, "A Thief's End" introduces breathtaking locales, new gameplay mechanics, and a satisfying conclusion to Drake's tale. Want to be Indiana Jones? This is the game to get.
4) Batman: Arkham VR
If you picked up a PS4, but also decided to splurge on the new
Playstation VR, you're going to want to get this immediately. Put on your PS VR and step into the mind of Batman, as you work to solve a mystery that starts in the Batcave. You can throw as many batarangs as you want, shark-repellant spray unfortunately not included.
3) Grand Theft Auto V
If you're reading this list, odds are you've heard of the "Grand Theft Auto" series. Maybe you've even played through "GTAV" on PS3. Did you know that the PS4 version, besides featuring completely updated graphics, has an all-new first person mode? You can literally drive while texting in the game and see what happens. Plus, multiplayer component "GTA Online" is constantly being updated. There's always something to do in fake Los Angeles.
2) Mortal Kombat X
If you need a fighting game in your collection, possibly to use in your household as a much funner alternative to rock-paper-scissors, why not go with the gold standard - "Mortal Kombat X." Featuring brutal x-ray moves, fatalities, and robust multiplayer options, you'll want to have this game on hand for when you just have to yell "get over here!"
1) The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt
Many have called it
the best game of 2015, and for good reason. The game puts players in the center of an extremely large open world—unlike other games that have failed by doing only that—populates it with engaging characters and storylines. Fun combat and a many-hours-long narrative make this game one of the best possible experiences on the PS4. Did we not include your favorite PS4 game?
